On a Winter’s Day

(Trumpeter Swan)

On a winter’s day, staring through my scope at this graceful and powerful creature, I can almost believe I’ve peered into an entirely different world. As mists blow across the water and snowflakes fall, that sense is heightened. I’ve tried to capture that all here. Otherworldly grace and power.

It turned out that painting a white bird on a very gray day proved quite challenging. About six attempts hit the trash can before this one proved, I thought, worth completing.

I hope you like it. If you’ve been lucky enough to see a swan in nature, perhaps you too felt the magic. Maybe that feeling derives from those pleasant evenings as a child when we were read one of the myriad children’s tales about this storied bird.
